Sharon Luzon

Sharon Luzon was born in 1971 in Hadera

Luzon was born in 1971 in Hadera and grew up there. He spent his early years in the Givat Olga neighborhood, where his parents, immigrants from North Africa, met and married. He served in the Golani Brigade.

He studied Middle Eastern history and political science at Tel Aviv University and later earned a master's degree in security studies there. As a student he sat on the student union council.

In 1997 he began teaching history and civics, and from 2000 he ran schools in Jaffa and then Petah Tikva. In 2003 and 2004 he hosted the TV program History Lesson on the History Channel and advised the channel on history. He now lectures at the Open University on strategy, national security, political science and international relations.

In 2008 he was among the first activists of Ir Lekulanu and helped organize Open University staff into the Koach La Ovdim union, leading a 50 day strike in 2009. From 2011 he served on the Tel Aviv-Yafo council in the opposition, working on workers' rights, homelessness and urban nature. In 2012 he filed a no confidence motion against mayor Ron Huldai, and he is active in Hadash.
