The story of Shimon Siso's life
Siso joined the IDF and was assigned to Battalion 51 of the Golani Brigade. He trained as a combat soldier and completed the infantry squad commanders course and the infantry officers course.
On 20 December 2007, during an operation in the al-Maghazi refugee camp in Gaza, gunmen attacked a building held by his platoon. Siso, the platoon commander, charged the attackers with another soldier and the squad was killed. He received a citation from the Southern Command chief.
He commanded the Golani reconnaissance company in 2014 and 2015. In 2017 he became a lieutenant colonel and commander of the Golani reconnaissance battalion, which was converted into a sayeret under him, and he served there until 2019. After several incidents in the unit, including a road accident that killed 3 soldiers, he received a command remark from the Northern Command chief.
He later commanded the Golani training base and led a team at the Tactical Command College. In 2022 he became a colonel and commander of the Samaria Brigade, where he made the brigade more active against terror in Nablus.
In March 2024 he was named head of the Ground Forces training department. A 2025 appointment to command the Bislach Brigade was announced, but he gave it up. In August 2026 it was decided he would command the Commando Brigade.
