Shlomo Lorincz was born in 1918 in Budapest

Lorincz was born in Budapest in 1918, the son of Rabbi Yosef Aryeh Lorincz. From 1933 to 1935 he studied under Rabbi Yaakov Yechezkiya Greenwald at the Papa Yeshiva in Hungary. In late 1935 he went to Poland to study at the Mir Yeshiva.

Back in Hungary, he was active in the illegal immigration of Jews for Agudat Yisrael. He immigrated to Mandatory Palestine in 1939 and taught at a Hungarian yeshiva in Tel Aviv. In 1949 he was among the founders of moshav Komemiyut, and he later helped found the youth villages Sde Hemed and Hazon Yehezkel.

In May 1951 he was arrested on suspicion of membership in Brit HaKanaim, held for 9 days and not put on trial. He was elected to the Knesset in 1951 and reelected through 1981. He chaired the Finance Committee from 1974 to 1984, and in 1954 the Knesset refused a request to lift his immunity.

From 1987 to 2003 he chaired the advisory council of the Bank of Israel, and his signature appeared on banknotes of those years. In 1989 he took part in founding the Degel HaTorah party. He wrote a memoir about Torah figures he knew, and died in 2009.
