Si Heiman

Si Heiman was born in 1961 in Beit Alfa

Heiman was born Smadar Heiman in 1961 at Kibbutz Beit Alfa. Her father was the composer Nahum Heiman and her mother Dalia was an alternative therapist. In 1967 the family moved to France and in 1970 to London.

After facing violence and antisemitism at school in London, she decided to change her first name to Si, a family nickname. At 12 she returned alone to Beit Alfa and lived with a host family. She served in the Oketz Unit.

In 1985 she acted in Avi Nesher's film Shovrim. Her debut album came out in 1987 and her second in 1988. Her song Yorim Uvochim was banned from Army Radio for its political content.

Her third album came out in 1990 and she was named singer of the year on Reshet Gimel's annual chart. She then stepped back to raise her son with musician Ran Efron. She released albums in 1994 and 2001 and took part in the 1995 Eurovision pre-selection.

In the following decade she ran her own production company. In 2007 she helped write and record a song with the mental health group Enosh. She released new singles in 2008 and 2009.
