Stavit A Shalev

Stavit A Shalev was born in 1960 in Haifa

Stavit Alon Shalev was born in 1960 to Zeeva and Moshe, and she has a sister and two brothers. She grew up in Binyamina and attended the regional school in Pardes Hanna. In the IDF she headed a section in Unit 8200 of the Intelligence Directorate and was discharged as a lieutenant.

She graduated with honors from medical school at the Technion in 1989. She completed a residency in pediatrics in 1994 and in medical genetics in 1996, and trained in Vancouver and at the Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor. From 1997 to 1999 she did postdoctoral work at the Sackler School of Medicine at Tel Aviv University.

Since 1997 she has directed the genetics center at Emek Medical Center, where she focuses on rare inborn genetic diseases and genetic services for the Arab population in Israel. She has taught at the Technion medical school since 2003 and became a clinical professor in 2015. In 2009 she founded the genetic counseling program there and has led it since.

In 2021 she became dean of the Azrieli School of Continuing Education at the Technion, and in 2023 she began directing its biomedical research institute. She chaired the Health Ministry's supreme committee on human trials until she resigned in 2020. In 2024 she joined the Israel National Academy of Medical Sciences.

She is married to Professor Eliezer Shalev, and they have 6 children. She lives in Binyamina.
