Walid al-Huashla was born on 11 October 1981 in Sa'wa, a Bedouin town in the Negev east of Beersheba. He earned a bachelor's degree in Middle Eastern studies and a master's degree in political science at the University of Haifa.

From 2000 to 2013 he worked as a football referee in the Israel Football Association, including in the higher divisions. In April 2017 he was elected to represent his town on the council of the Al-Kasom Regional Council. He then served for about a year and a half as an adviser to Knesset member Said al-Harumi of Ra'am.

In 2020 he became director and spokesman of the Ra'am faction in the Knesset, and kept the role while Ra'am was part of the Bennett-Lapid government. In early 2022 he was elected chairman of the general assembly of the southern branch of the Islamic Movement. After al-Harumi died, he won the Negev slot on the Ra'am list, defeating Rahat mayor Faiz Abu Sahiban.

He entered the Knesset in 2022, after the party won 5 seats. He sits on several committees, including the State Control Committee, and chairs the caucus for the unrecognized villages in the Negev. In October 2025 he voted in favor of a commission of inquiry on the 7 October attacks, a proposal that was voted down.
