Yeshayahu Bareket was born in 1935 in Poland
Bareket was born Yeshayahu Broder in Poland in 1935 and came to the Land of Israel with his family as a baby. He grew up in Jerusalem and in the Florentin neighborhood of Tel Aviv. As a boy he carried messages between the Haganah, where his father served, and Lehi, where his brother-in-law served.
He studied aircraft mechanics at the Max Fine school and earned a civilian pilot license at 16. He later completed a bachelor's degree in economics and political science at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
In the IDF he finished pilot course number 8 as a fighter pilot and fought in the Sinai War with Squadron 113. He commanded Squadron 117, headed air force intelligence from 1965 and later commanded Hatzerim base. During the Yom Kippur War he served as air attaché in Washington and took part in efforts to secure an American airlift to Israel.
After leaving the IDF he joined Ariel Sharon's Shlomtzion party. For many years he represented the German shipyard that builds Dolphin submarines to the defense establishment, until Miki Ganor replaced him in 2009. The circumstances of that change are disputed and are central to Case 3000.
He is married to Miriam, who served in the air force control unit. They have 3 children and live in Ramat HaSharon.
