Yoram Marciano was born on 31 October 1964 into a religious family. His father David was a Lod city council member and secretary of the workers' council. He is a relative of Saadia Marciano, a Black Panthers leader and Knesset member.
For years he worked as an aide to Shimon Peres in several ministries. He also advised Dalia Itzik when she was minister of industry and trade. From 2002 to 2006 he sat on the Lod city council and served for a time as deputy mayor.
He was elected to the Knesset in 2006 for Labor-Meimad and chaired its parliamentary group. He focused on social issues and development towns, especially Ramla and Lod. In 2007 the Knesset ethics committee convicted him of improper conduct after a clash with guards at a Herzliya pub, a case he had brought against himself.
He lost his seat in 2009 and returned in December 2012 in place of Amir Peretz. In his swearing-in speech he announced he was leaving Labor and backing Benjamin Netanyahu. He ran for mayor of Lod in 2013 and 2023 and lost both times to Yair Revivo, but won a council seat each time.
In 2015 he became chairman of the football club MS Ashdod. After the 2023 election he served as deputy mayor of Lod, then left the coalition in July 2024.
