Yossele Dror was born in 1925 in Poland

Dror was born Yosef Huber in Poland in 1925. His parents moved to Mexico when he was a baby. In 1930 he came to the Land of Israel with his mother, and the family settled in Bat Yam.

In 1943 he joined the Palmach and then the Palyam, where he escorted immigrant ships. In 1947 he was deported to a camp in Cyprus, where he attached a mine to the British deportation ship Ocean Vigour. He was arrested, escaped the day before his trial and was smuggled back.

In April 1948 he and Benny Kravitz sank the arms ship Lino in Bari, Italy. He later commanded a naval sabotage diver unit and planned the operation against the ship Igris. In 1950 he became deputy commander of the new Shayetet 13 and left the IDF that year.

He returned to the navy in 1956 to found the submarine flotilla and trained in France. In December 1959 he brought the submarine INS Tanin to Haifa. He led the flotilla until 1963, then worked as a captain in the Israeli merchant fleet.
