Yossi Gino was born in 1947 in Migdal

Yossi Gino was born on December 30, 1947, in the village of Migdal to Pinchas and Bat-Sheva. His grandfather served in the 38th Battalion of the Royal Fusiliers in World War I. His father was an undercover fighter in the Arab section of the Palmach.

As a youth he joined the HaNoar HaOved VeHaLomed movement, fished with his father in the Sea of Galilee and herded his parents' sheep. He attended high school in Tiberias.

He joined Sayeret Matkal in 1965 and later trained Kurdish Peshmerga units for the Mossad. He was a security officer's assistant at the Israeli embassy in London, took part in the first delegation to peace talks in Egypt in 1977 and was a Shin Bet investigator from 1976 to 1981. He returned to career service in Sayeret Matkal in 1981 and again in 1987.

After leaving the IDF in 1992 he opened a restaurant in the Capernaum national park, which he had to demolish in 2014 after a long legal battle. While working for the Israel Electric Corporation he helped preserve and restore the Hefzibah farm for 14 years.

He died of cancer on December 21, 2016, and was buried in Migdal. He left a wife, Esther, and 3 daughters. A memorial garden was set up at the entrance to Migdal.
