Yuval Freilich was born in 1995 in Israel
Yuval Freilich was born in Israel on 24 January 1995 to Gabby and Rachel Freilich, who had moved to Israel from Sydney, Australia. He grew up in a religious family with three brothers and two sisters. The family lived in Neve Daniel and in Havatzelet HaSharon.
In 2000 the family moved to Australia, where he attended Moriah College primary school, and returned to Israel in 2004. He later studied at Hartman High School in Jerusalem. After the army he studied at the Open University of Israel and at IDC Herzliya, where he majored in law and government.
He served in the Israel Defense Forces with athlete status and trained at the Wingate Institute. He felt the 3 years of service slowed his progress in fencing.
He began fencing after watching the sport at the 2000 Olympics. In 2008 he and his father petitioned the High Court of Justice over official competitions held on Shabbat, and the court issued a temporary order in his favor. He won world and European cadet titles, 2 European junior titles, and the 2019 European championship, and competed at the 2024 Paris Olympics, finishing 19th.
