עוכבו הליכים לפי סעיף 231 רשאי היועץ המשפטי לממשלה, בהודעה בכתב לבית המשפט, לחדשם כל עוד לא עברו מיום עיכובם, בפשע – חמש שנים, ובעוון – שנה; הוגשה הודעה כאמור, יחדש בית המשפט את ההליכים, ורשאי הוא להמשיך בהם מן השלב שאליו הגיע לפני ההפסקה; עוכבו ההליכים בשניה לא יחודשו עוד.
