50 years old175 days₪38,817₪49,711₪65,866

Each case is the pay at the top of its column in all 6 months, with up to 2 dependents. The benefit for a month is 25 days of the daily benefit. The total is the benefit for all the days the age allows, under the daily maximums.

The benefit is a share of your daily wage, and the share gets smaller on the higher part of the wage.

  1. Your daily wage is your pay for the 6 months before the month you first registered with the Employment Service, divided by 150.
  2. The wage is split into four parts, measured against the basic daily amount, ₪415 in 2026. Each part pays its own share, and the share is higher from age 28.
  3. The benefit for a day is never more than ₪550.76 in the first 125 days of payment, and never more than ₪367.17 from day 126.

Part of the daily wageAge 28 and overUnder age 28
Up to ₪207.5080%60%

₪311.25 to ₪41545%35%
₪415 to ₪2,07530%25%

These parts are half, three quarters, once and five times the basic daily amount of ₪415. For example, pay of ₪12,000 a month is a daily wage of ₪480. At 28 and over it pays ₪284.06 a day, and under 28 it pays ₪218.56 a day. Pay of ₪20,000 a month at 28 and over pays ₪380.06 a day for the first 125 days and ₪367.17 a day after that, because ₪367.17 is the most from day 126.

How many days you get the benefit depends on your age and your dependents.

The days can be used in the 12 months that start on the 1st of the month you first reported to the Employment Service. Your age and dependents can change the number while you claim.

Two groups get other numbers and are not in the calculator. A woman aged 57 to 67 who was born in 1960 or later can get up to 300 days over 18 months. A soldier discharged from regular service can get up to 70 days in the first year after.

You can get the benefit if you meet these conditions.

  • You worked as a salaried employee and your work stopped.
  • You live in Israel, or you are a temporary resident with a permit.
  • You are at least 20 and have not reached 67.
  • You worked at least 12 of the 18 months before you first registered with the Employment Service. One day of work in a month counts as a month, and the months need not be in a row or with one employer.
  • You register with the Employment Service soon after your work stops and report there as it asks. If you register online, you report to your nearest office within 14 days.

These workers are not insured for unemployment.

  • A self-employed worker.
  • The controlling owner of a company with few owners, even when the company employs them.
  • A member of a kibbutz or a cooperative moshav, unless they are employed outside it.
  • A soldier in regular service, and a volunteer in national or civil service, while they serve.
  • A student or a yeshiva student who is not employed.

When the benefit starts depends on why your work stopped.

  • You were dismissed, or your contract ended: you can get the benefit from the first day you report to the Employment Service. Days you were paid for during a lawful notice period are not paid again.
  • You resigned for a justified reason, such as a material worsening of your working conditions, your own health or a family member's, or a move of home or workplace that puts them more than 60 kilometres apart: from the first day you register, with papers that show the reason.
  • You resigned with no justification: nothing is paid for the first 90 days from the day your work stopped (section 166).
  • Your employer put you on unpaid leave: from the first day you report, when the leave is at least 30 days. Unpaid leave you asked for does not qualify.
  • In every case, nothing is paid for the first 5 days of unemployment in each period of four months in a row that starts when your claim does (section 172).

Income tax, National Insurance and health insurance are deducted from the benefit.

The National Insurance Institute deducts income tax at source, National Insurance at the minimum rate of ₪48 from 2026, and health insurance by the size of the benefit (section 177 of the law). If you have a tax exemption or discount certificate, hand it to the Institute, or ask the tax office for a refund. Income you earn while you get the benefit is deducted from it.

People ask these questions about unemployment benefit in Israel.

How much unemployment benefit will I get in Israel?+

It depends on your pay and your age. For example, at 35 with pay of ₪12,000 a month the benefit is ₪284.06 a day, which is about ₪7,102 a month, for up to 138 days. The most the benefit can be is ₪550.76 a day for the first 125 days and ₪367.17 a day after that.

How many days of unemployment benefit do I get?+

It depends on your age and on how many people depend on you. With up to 2 dependents it is 50 days under 25, 67 from 25 to 27, 100 from 28 to 34, 138 from 35 to 44 and 175 from 45. With 3 or more dependents it is 138 days under 35 and 175 from 35 (National Insurance Law, section 171). The days can be used in the 12 months after you first reported to the Employment Service.

Can I get unemployment benefit if I resigned?+

Yes, but not at once. After a resignation with no justification, the benefit starts only after 90 days from the day your work stopped. If you resigned for a justified reason, such as a material worsening of your working conditions or health reasons, you can get it from the first day you register, and you should attach papers that show the reason.

Is unemployment benefit taxed?+

Income tax is deducted from the benefit at source, together with National Insurance at the minimum rate of ₪48 and health insurance. If you have a tax exemption or discount certificate, give it to the National Insurance Institute, or ask the tax office for a refund.

How long must I have worked to get unemployment benefit?+

At least 12 months out of the 18 months before you first registered with the Employment Service. One day of work in a month counts as a month, the months need not be in a row, and they can be with different employers.

An estimate for the ordinary case; the National Insurance Institute decides each claim. The daily wage, the shares and the maximums are from the Institute's pages on how the benefit is worked out and its amount. The days are from how long it is paid, who is entitled from the conditions, and when it starts from the reasons work stops. They were checked against the National Insurance Law, sections 161, 166, 167, 171, 172 and 177, and its schedule of rates.
