תקופת ההשגחה על הילד תסתיים במלאת לו שבע שנים, ותקופת ההשגחה על הילדה תסתיים במלאת לה תשע שנים.
על האב לקבל את הילד לרושמו. לא היה לילד אב או סב, יימסר לעצבה הקרוב ביותר אם היה נער, ואילו נערה תימסר רק לקרוב האסור עליה בנישואין, לא היה עצבה יישאר הילד אצל המשגיחה זולת אם מצא הקאדי אישה אחרת עדיפה עליה.
