Explosions reported on Iran's Qeshm island and at Jask port, US role unconfirmed

Iranian state media reported blasts on Qeshm island near the Strait of Hormuz, while unofficial channels claimed a US strike on a missile launcher at Jask.

Explosions were heard on Qeshm island in southern Iran on Saturday evening, according to Iranian state media as relayed by Israeli outlets. N12's foreign desk reported that IRNA, Iran's official news agency, said blasts had been heard on the island, and Ynet carried an alert citing reports inside Iran of explosions on Qeshm, which sits in the Strait of Hormuz. A later N12 update described the explosions as powerful.

At around the same time, reports emerged of an incident at the port of Jask, further along Iran's southern coast. Abu Ali Express, an Israeli Telegram channel that monitors Arabic and Persian media, said Iranian opposition channels and channels aligned with the Iran-led regional axis were reporting a US attack on Jask port. Minutes later, the same channel cited unofficial sources as saying the target was a launcher for anti-ship missiles at the port. No official American or Iranian confirmation of a strike appears in any of the reports.

What each outlet reported

The accounts overlap but are not identical, and they rest on different kinds of sourcing.

Taken together, the reports establish that Iranian state media acknowledged explosions on Qeshm and published footage of a blast at Jask. The claim that the United States carried out a strike, and that it hit an anti-ship missile launcher, rests on unofficial and partisan channels as relayed by Israeli outlets.

Where Qeshm, Jask and Bandar Abbas are

All three locations lie on or near the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow waterway linking the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman and the open sea beyond. A large share of the world's seaborne oil passes through it, which is why military activity in the area draws close international attention.

Qeshm is an island inside the strait, lying off the Iranian mainland close to Bandar Abbas, the main port city of Iran's Hormozgan province and a significant base for Iranian naval forces. Jask is a port on Iran's coast east of the strait, facing the Gulf of Oman. Its position outside the strait itself gives it a view over shipping approaching the chokepoint from the open sea.

Anti-ship missiles are designed to strike vessels at sea. A launcher for such weapons positioned along this coastline would be within range of commercial and naval traffic moving through or toward the strait. That general point explains why such a site would matter militarily; it does not confirm that one was hit.

How to read these early reports

All four Israeli outlets in this account published on Telegram, where Israeli news organisations push out short, fast alerts as events unfold, often before details are confirmed. N12 and Ynet are mainstream Israeli news brands; their alerts here relayed what Iranian media were saying rather than independent reporting from the scene. Abu Ali Express and News.co.il aggregate regional reporting and social media.

IRNA is the Islamic Republic News Agency, Iran's official state news service, and ISNA is another major Iranian agency. When they report explosions on Iranian territory, that confirms Tehran is acknowledging something happened, though state media do not always give a cause.

The term used by Abu Ali Express, channels identified with the Shiite axis, refers to the network of Iran and its allied groups across the region, sometimes called the axis of resistance. Iranian opposition channels sit on the other side politically. The fact that both reportedly described a US strike is notable, but neither is a neutral source, and their claims had not been matched by any official statement in the material available.

What the reports do not say

No statement from the US military or the US government confirming or denying a strike appears in any of the reports. Iranian officials, as quoted, described explosions but did not assign blame. There is no information on casualties or damage at either location. The reports do not establish whether the explosions on Qeshm and at Jask are connected, what the reported missile launch from the Bandar Abbas area was aimed at, or whether it happened at all.

How we checked this

Explosions on Qeshm were reported by N12 and Ynet citing Iranian media; N12 changed its attribution from ISNA to IRNA. The claim of a US strike on an anti-ship missile launcher at Jask comes only from unofficial and partisan channels as relayed by Abu Ali Express and News.co.il, and has not been officially confirmed.
