The Israeli military says it has killed three commanders from Hamas's armed wing in a series of strikes across the Gaza Strip over recent days. In a statement from the IDF spokesperson, the Israel Defense Forces identified one of the dead as Anas Akram Muhammad Humaida, whom it described as a commander in Hamas's Nukhba force who took part in the raid on the Sufa outpost during the October 7 attack.
According to the military, two of the three men crossed into Israel on that day. Emanuel Fabian, military correspondent for the Times of Israel, reported that Humaida was killed on Sunday in a strike in Khan Younis, and that a separate Sunday strike in Gaza City killed Ashraf Mahmoud Yusuf Dahlan. Hebrew-language outlets named the third man as Mahmoud Uthman Abdallah Alwan, also described as a Nukhba commander.

The three men named by the military
- Anas Akram Muhammad Humaida: identified as a Nukhba commander who raided the Sufa army post on October 7, 2023. Killed on Sunday in the Khan Younis area.
- Ashraf Mahmoud Yusuf Dahlan: linked by the military to Hamas's East Jabaliya battalion and accused of entering Israeli territory on October 7. Killed on Sunday in the Gaza City area.
- Mahmoud Uthman Abdallah Alwan: described as a Nukhba commander in the West Jabaliya battalion. The Hebrew-language channel Abu Ali Express reported that he was killed on Monday in the Gaza City area. The reports do not tie him to the October 7 attack.
The Hebrew news site News.co.il reported, citing the military, that the three were killed in airstrikes.
A discrepancy over Dahlan's rank
The sources do not describe Dahlan's position in the same way. The IDF's English-language posts and the Times of Israel correspondent call him a company commander. The two Hebrew-language reports use the term mefaked mahlaka, which in standard Israeli military usage refers to a platoon commander, a smaller unit than a company. The available material does not explain the difference, and this report does not resolve it.
The military's stated reason for the strikes
In a post on X, the IDF said the men had recently been advancing attacks against Israeli civilians and soldiers and working to rebuild Hamas's military capabilities, which it called a systematic violation of the ceasefire. The army said the strikes were carried out to remove what it described as an immediate threat. These accusations come from the military alone; none of the reports carry a response from Hamas or any independent account of the men's recent activity.

What the Nukhba force and Sufa outpost are
Nukhba, an Arabic word meaning "elite", is the name Israel uses for Hamas's commando units. Israeli officials have repeatedly identified Nukhba fighters as the spearhead of the October 7, 2023 assault on southern Israel, when gunmen broke through the border fence and attacked army positions and civilian communities. The Sufa outpost was an Israeli army position along the Gaza boundary and was among the military posts overrun that morning.
Khan Younis is the main city of the southern Gaza Strip. Gaza City lies in the north of the territory, and Jabaliya, which gives its name to the two Hamas battalions mentioned in the reports, is an area in the northern Strip. Hamas's armed wing is organised into regional brigades and battalions, and Israeli military announcements routinely identify those killed by their unit.
How this fits a familiar pattern
Announcements of this kind, naming individual Hamas operatives killed in targeted strikes and linking them where possible to October 7, have been a regular feature of the military's public messaging. In this case the IDF framed the strikes as action against threats during a ceasefire, which is the context the military itself gave. The reports do not describe the terms of the ceasefire or its current status.
What the reports do not say
None of the reports state whether anyone else was killed or injured in the three strikes, or describe the buildings or locations hit beyond the general areas of Khan Younis and Gaza City. They give no detail on what specific attacks the men are alleged to have been planning. There is no reaction from Hamas or from Gaza health authorities in the material, and no independent confirmation of the identities or roles of the three men. The conflicting descriptions of Dahlan's rank also remain unexplained.

How we checked this
The killings and the men's identities come from the Israeli military, as relayed by the IDF's own channels, a Times of Israel correspondent and two Hebrew-language outlets; none of these is an independent confirmation. The allegations about the men's roles and recent activity are attributed solely to the IDF, and the Monday date for the third strike appears in one Hebrew report.
