Iran's Revolutionary Guards say war with the US has no geographic limits
An IRGC spokesperson said new directives from Iran's Supreme Leader opened a new chapter in the war, as Iran vowed to decide when the fighting ends.

Iran has said it will meet any threat with greater determination than in the past and that it, not its adversaries, will decide when the war ends. Ynet carried the statement in a brief news alert, quoting Iran as saying it would respond to any threat more firmly than before and would set the end point of the war.
Later the same morning, Israeli broadcaster N12 published fuller remarks attributed to the spokesperson of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), whose name its correspondent Sapir Lipkin rendered as Hossein Mohebbi. According to N12, the spokesperson said the Supreme Leader's most recent instructions to senior military commanders had opened a new chapter in the war, and that Iran's security forces were now readier than at any earlier point to answer an enemy attempt with force.

Brigadier-General Yadollah Javani, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ deputy for political affairs, says Iranian forces are operating on the assumption that the US or Israel could strike at any moment. 🔴 LIVE updates ⤵️ aje.news/y3fgub
What the IRGC spokesperson said
The remarks reported by N12 centred on two ideas: geography and deterrence. The spokesperson was quoted as saying that in the war with the United States there are "no geographic limits," and that a broad battlefield had been defined so that Iran could strike the enemy and achieve what he called total deterrence.
In a second excerpt, N12 reported the spokesperson as defining "maximum deterrence" as a situation in which, from now on, no country would be able to adopt a political position against Iran, still less have designs on its territory. He was also quoted as saying the IRGC had given itself the task of identifying new targets and planning operations in a new geography.
The Ynet alert and the N12 reports appear to describe the same line of messaging: a warning of a firmer response, a claim that Iran controls the timing of the war's end, and an expanded definition of where Iran considers the conflict to be taking place. The Ynet alert, however, attributes its quotation to Iran in general terms and does not name a speaker, so it is not clear from the material whether both outlets were quoting the same person or the same statement.

Who the Revolutionary Guards are
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps is a branch of Iran's armed forces that exists alongside the regular army. It was created after the Islamic Revolution to protect the revolutionary system, and it answers to the Supreme Leader rather than to the elected government. Over the years it has grown into one of the most powerful institutions in the country, with its own ground, naval and aerospace forces, and an external arm that works with allied armed groups across the region. Its spokesperson regularly issues statements on military matters, and these are often read abroad as signals of the leadership's intentions.
The Supreme Leader is Iran's highest authority under its constitution and the commander-in-chief of all armed forces. When an IRGC official presents a shift in posture as flowing from the Supreme Leader's directives, as the spokesperson did according to N12, it frames the change as coming from the top of the state rather than from a single commander.
Why the language matters to readers abroad
The phrases reported here, such as a war without geographic limits, a broad battlefield and operations in a new geography, are framed as a widening of the area in which Iran says it is prepared to act. The reported definition of maximum deterrence also goes beyond military action, describing an aim of preventing other countries from even taking a political stance against Iran. For Israel and for countries hosting American forces, statements of this kind are typically watched closely, because they can signal which targets an adversary is willing to consider.
The material frames the conflict explicitly as a war with the United States. The reports reviewed here do not mention Israel by name, and this article does not assume what the spokesperson meant by "the enemy" beyond what he said.
What the reports do not say
- None of the reports specifies what the Supreme Leader's latest directives contained, when they were issued or which commanders received them.
- The reports do not identify any new targets or name the new geography the IRGC says it is planning to operate in.
- The Ynet alert does not name who made the statement it quotes, and it is not clear whether it refers to the same remarks N12 reported.
- The material gives no response from the United States, Israel or any other government.
- No report describes a specific military action accompanying the statements; they are reported as declarations of intent only.

The statement that Iran would respond more firmly and decide the war's end was reported by Ynet without naming a speaker; the detailed remarks by the IRGC spokesperson come from N12 alone. Quotations are our translation of Hebrew reports and have not been checked against an Iranian original.
