Israeli strikes hit two Hamas weapons stores in Bureij and Gaza City
The IDF and Shin Bet say overnight strikes destroyed two Hamas depots holding rockets, explosives and rifles, though reports differ on which night the strikes took place.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Shin Bet security service say they struck and destroyed two depots used by Hamas' military wing in the Gaza Strip, one in the Al-Bureij area and one in the Gaza City area. In a joint announcement published on the IDF spokesperson's channel, the two bodies said the facilities held dozens of weapons of different kinds.
According to the military, the stockpiles included rockets, grenades, rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs), Kalashnikov assault rifles, explosive devices, magazines and other combat gear. The Times of Israel reported that the military also said it had warned civilians living near the sites before the airstrikes, in order to reduce harm to people not involved.

Who carried out the strikes
The announcement came jointly from the IDF and the Israel Security Agency, which the military's English statements abbreviate as ISA and which is widely known as the Shin Bet. The Shin Bet is Israel's domestic security and intelligence service. Joint statements of this kind usually indicate that the agency supplied intelligence on a target while the military carried out the strike itself, although this announcement did not describe how the two divided the work.
The targets were described as belonging to Hamas' military wing, the armed branch of the Islamist movement that has governed the Gaza Strip. The IDF's English statement used the word "dismantled" for the facilities, while Hebrew versions of the same statement, carried by outlets including News.co.il, said the depots were destroyed.
Where Bureij and Gaza City are
Bureij, written Al-Bureij in the military's statement, is a refugee camp in the central part of the Gaza Strip. Haaretz described it as the Al-Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza, and the Times of Israel also placed it in the centre of the territory. Gaza City is the largest urban area in the Strip and lies further north. N12's correspondent described the strikes as taking place in the northern and central parts of the Strip, consistent with those two locations.

The statements gave the strikes' locations only at the level of an area, the Al-Bureij area and the Gaza City area. No street, building or neighbourhood was named in any of the reports.
What the military says it found
Every report repeats the same inventory, which originates in the IDF and Shin Bet statement rather than in independent observation. The military used the phrase "dozens of weapons" and did not give a precise count, a breakdown by type, or the size of either facility. The IDF's post on X listed the same categories and added "additional combat equipment" without specifying what that included.

Israel says strikes killed two Hamas commanders, one of them in Gaza City
The Hebrew version of the statement closed with a commitment that Israel's security forces would keep working to erode the capabilities of armed groups in Gaza and to prevent any attempt to rebuild them or to hold weapons intended for attacks on Israeli troops. Ynet's alert summarised the announcement as the destruction of two Hamas depots for rockets and other weaponry.
A discrepancy over the date
The reports do not agree on which night the strikes happened. The IDF statement, published on Friday, said the strikes took place "last night (Thursday)", and News.co.il's Hebrew text likewise specified Thursday. Haaretz, however, reported that the strikes were carried out on Wednesday night, with the joint statement released on Friday. The Times of Israel and its military correspondent Emanuel Fabian referred only to "last night". We have not been able to establish which account is correct and are reporting both.
What the reports do not say
None of the reports mentions casualties, whether anyone was present at either site when it was struck, or any damage to surrounding buildings. The claim that civilians were warned in advance appears only in the Times of Israel's account of what the military said, and no report describes how those warnings were delivered or how many people received them.
No report includes a response from Hamas, from Gaza's civil authorities, or from residents of Bureij or Gaza City. The military released imagery with its post, but the reports do not show independent confirmation of what was stored at either site; the weapons list rests entirely on the IDF and Shin Bet statement. The reports also do not explain how the depots were identified or how long they had been under surveillance.

How we checked this
The strikes were reported by the IDF spokesperson, The Times of Israel, Haaretz, Ynet, N12 and News.co.il, but all accounts rely on the joint IDF and Shin Bet statement; the weapons inventory and the advance warnings to civilians are the military's claims and have not been independently verified. Sources disagree on whether the strikes took place on Wednesday or Thursday night.
