Man, about 30, seriously burned in e-bike battery blast near Azriel
A foreign worker from Thailand was taken to Sheba Medical Center with burns across his body after what medics believe was an e-bike battery explosion.

A man of about 30 was seriously injured on Sunday morning when what was presumably the battery of an electric bicycle exploded in an open area close to Azriel, a community in central Israel. According to Magen David Adom, Israel's national emergency medical service, its 101 dispatch centre in the Yarkon region received the call at 09:43. The service described the injured man as a foreign worker from Thailand.
Paramedics and medics treated him at the scene and then evacuated him to Sheba Medical Center at Tel HaShomer. Magen David Adom said he was in serious condition, with burns covering all parts of his body. N12, the news arm of Israel's Channel 12, carried the same account, giving his age as about 30 and reporting that the explosion had probably come from an e-bike battery. Ynet, the news site of the Yedioth Ahronoth group, reported in a brief alert that a man had been badly hurt by an exploding e-bike battery in the Sharon.
Who responded and where he was taken
Magen David Adom, usually shortened to MDA, is Israel's equivalent of a national ambulance service and a member of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. Members of the public reach it by dialling 101, and calls are routed to regional dispatch centres. The Yarkon region named in the statement covers part of central Israel. MDA statements routinely give a time for the first call and a medical classification of the patient; "serious" in Israeli medical reporting sits below "critical" and above "moderate".
Sheba Medical Center, located at Tel HaShomer just east of Tel Aviv, is one of Israel's largest hospitals and receives many trauma and burn patients from the centre of the country.
The location
Azriel is a small agricultural community. Ynet placed the incident in the Sharon, the coastal plain region north and east of Tel Aviv that is known for farming. MDA and N12 both said the blast happened in open ground near the community rather than inside a home or building. None of the reports describes the site in more detail.
Thai workers in Israeli agriculture
MDA identified the injured man as a Thai national employed in Israel as a foreign worker. Workers from Thailand form a large share of the hired labour on Israeli farms, particularly in rural areas such as the Sharon, and they often rely on bicycles and e-bikes to travel between fields, housing and nearby towns. The reports do not say what work the man was doing, whether he owned the bicycle, or whether he was riding it or near it when the battery failed.
E-bike batteries as a recurring hazard
Electric bicycles and scooters are very widely used in Israel, and their lithium-ion batteries have been linked to fires and explosions in the country, as in many others. Israeli emergency services have repeatedly warned about damaged, modified or poor-quality batteries and about charging practices. Neither MDA nor the news reports offer any information on the condition of this particular battery, how it was being charged or stored, or what set off the explosion. The word used in both the MDA statement and the N12 report is a Hebrew abbreviation meaning "apparently" or "presumably", so the battery as the source of the blast had not been confirmed at the time of reporting.
How the reports compare
The three accounts agree on the core facts: a man was seriously hurt in an explosion attributed to an e-bike battery. MDA and N12 give matching details on his age, the open area near Azriel, the hospital and the burns. Only MDA states that he was a foreign worker from Thailand. Ynet's alert names the Sharon rather than Azriel and gives no age, hospital or description of the injuries.
What the reports do not say
None of the reports names the injured man or says how he came to be near the battery. There is no information on whether anyone else was present or hurt, whether a fire followed, or whether police, fire and rescue services or any other body has opened an inquiry. The cause remains described as probable rather than established. No update on his condition after arrival at Sheba Medical Center appears in the material.

How we checked this
The incident was reported by Magen David Adom, N12 and Ynet; MDA and N12 agree on age, location, hospital and injuries. The man's Thai nationality is stated only by MDA, and the battery as the cause is described by sources as probable, not confirmed.
