Trump says US may have to bring 'a hammer' down on Iran without a deal
Speaking days before US midterm elections, President Trump said Iran must sign an agreement or face renewed American military action to end the conflict.

US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that the war with Iran will end soon, either through an agreement signed by Tehran or through further American military action. The Times of Israel reported that Trump made the remarks to the Right Side Broadcasting Network, saying the United States would "put it away very soon" one way or another, and that if Iran did not agree to terms, "we'll just end it."
Israeli outlets carried a sharper line from the same day. N12's foreign desk reported that Trump, speaking about Iran at an election rally, said he had wanted to be nice to the Iranians, but that at some point the United States would have to bring a hammer down on them. Ynet carried a similar quote in its news alerts. News.co.il described the remarks as an ultimatum, reporting that Trump said Iran must sign an agreement with the United States or Washington would "complete the mission."

What Trump said, and where
The four reports describe the setting differently. The Times of Israel attributes its quotes to an interview with the Right Side Broadcasting Network, a US outlet that, in this report, is cited as the venue. N12 describes the remarks as having been made at an election rally. The reports do not make clear whether these were the same appearance or two separate occasions, and this article does not assume either.
The substance of the reported remarks is consistent across all four outlets: a choice presented to Iran between signing an agreement and facing further US action. According to The Times of Israel, Trump suggested that a new American offensive would succeed where earlier ones had not, describing that path as possibly "the easy way." The same report quoted him saying the United States had already achieved "such a victory."
The Hebrew-language reports rendered his words in translation. Both Ynet and N12 used the image of a hammer. News.co.il used the phrase about completing the mission. These are Hebrew renderings of English remarks, and the exact original English wording of the hammer comment is not given in the material.

The war with Iran so far
For readers who have not followed the conflict closely: according to The Times of Israel, the war began on February 28 with joint American and Israeli strikes on the Islamic Republic of Iran. Israel has long regarded Iran as its most serious strategic threat, and the United States and Israel acted together in opening the campaign.
The Times of Israel noted that Trump has been predicting an imminent end to the war since only a few weeks after it started. More recently, the paper reported, he has said the conflict would be wrapped up quickly after the US midterm elections scheduled for this coming Tuesday. Sunday's comments repeat that pattern: a forecast of a near-term end, paired with two possible routes to it.
Why the timing matters to readers
The remarks came in the final days of a US midterm campaign, and N12 placed at least part of them at a campaign event. Midterm elections determine control of the US Congress and are widely read as a verdict on a sitting president. Statements on foreign policy made in that setting are addressed to domestic voters as well as to foreign governments.
For Israeli readers and the diaspora, US positions on Iran carry direct weight. Israel took part in the opening strikes alongside the United States, and any agreement between Washington and Tehran, or any renewed American offensive, would shape Israel's own security situation.
What the reports do not say
None of the four reports describes the terms of the agreement Trump wants Iran to sign, or whether any negotiations are under way. None gives a deadline for the ultimatum that News.co.il describes. The reports do not say what form a renewed US offensive would take, whether Israel would be involved, or whether Israeli officials have responded.
No Iranian reaction is included in the material. The reports also do not settle whether the hammer remark and the Right Side Broadcasting Network interview came from one appearance or two. Finally, the reports do not explain what Trump meant by the "easy way" beyond The Times of Israel's reading that he was suggesting another offensive would be more effective than previous ones.
