Rami Kleinstein was composing hits for others before his own debut album went gold in 1986
Rami Kleinstein was born in 1962 in New York and moved to Israel at the age of six. In 1978, still at high school, he formed the band Likui Chama with Yermi Kaplan, and in the army he was musical director of the IDF band Tzahal 80. In 1985 he composed Od Lo Tamu Kol Pla'ayich, a hit for the Northern Command band, and produced and arranged Danny Bassan's debut album.
His debut album BeYom Shel HaPtzatza (1986) went gold, with Zman Gashum, At Shara BaRadio and Esh, and the same year he composed and arranged most of Rita's debut album. Tapuchim VeTmarim (1995) went platinum within six months and sold about 150,000 copies; its title song was song of the year on Reshet Gimel's annual chart, and the title song of Kol Ma SheTirtzi (1997) did the same.
In 2012 he was a mentor on The Voice Israel, and the title song of Matanot Ktanot (2014) became a success that many others went on to cover. In 2016 he released a joint album with Keren Peles and toured with her, in 2018 he marked 30 years of his career with a new show that opened at Heichal HaTarbut, and in 2023 he received ACUM's lifetime achievement award.
