Tania Vinokur picked up the violin at four in Chișinău and later learned flamenco in Seville
Tania Vinokur was born in 1982 in Chișinău, Moldova, then part of the Soviet Union, and began playing the violin at four. In 1990 her family came to Israel and settled in Rehovot, where she went on with violin and ballet and took up flamenco. She studied at the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music at Tel Aviv University from 1999 to 2001 and then studied flamenco in Seville.
From 2002 to 2011 she was a cast member of Mayumana, in Israel and on its tours abroad. In 2006 she created Cinco 5, a flamenco fusion show in which she played the violin, danced, played the cajón and sang, and it went on to Tzavta, the Suzanne Dellal Centre and the Jerusalem Theatre. Her second show, Cuadros, followed in 2009, and in 2013 she launched SHINE, a project of new music that mixes world music with other rhythms.
She has performed in the United States, Cuba, Europe and Thailand and on the TEDxJaffa stage, has recorded eight albums and staged seven shows of her own, and has worked with the Greek singer Glykeria and the Gipsy Kings, among others. Her album Jewish Violin came out in 2021, and in 2026 she released BeKetzev HaLev, her first album in Hebrew, and set out on a tour marking 20 years of her work.
