Yehoram Gaon was once told to recite his lines instead of singing them
Yehoram Gaon was born in Jerusalem in 1939 and started out in 1957 as an actor in the Nahal entertainment troupe, where at first he was not really seen as a singer: during one recording he was told to recite his two lines instead of singing them. He went on to sing with HaTarnegolim, formed the Yarkon Bridge Trio with Arik Einstein and Benny Amdursky, and in 1965 released his first solo album, Kol HaIr Merakhelet Aleinu.
The lead role in the musical Kazablan in 1966 made him one of Israel's leading singers, and its songs Kol HaKavod and Yesh Makom are still linked to his name; he played the role again in the 1973 film. In 1969 he took both first and second place at the Israel Song Festival, and in 1971 he wrote, directed and starred in the film Ani Yerushalmi, about his Jerusalem family.
He has recorded more than 900 songs, starred in the sitcom Krovim Krovim in the 1980s and in Sabri Maranan from 2011, and received the Israel Prize for Hebrew song in 2004. In 2017 he published his autobiography, Od Ani Pose'a, and in 2024 he opened a big show of the same name, which he performed for about two years.
