Zehava Ben was discovered singing in a pub in Sderot and became one of the first women stars of Mizrahi music

Zehava Ben was born Zehava Benisti in Beersheba in 1968, to a family from Morocco, and grew up in the city's Shikun Dalet neighbourhood. As a young woman she sang at family events and in pubs, and in 1988 producer Eli Banai heard her at a pub in Sderot and offered to manage her.

Her first album, Tipat Mazal (1989), and above all its title song made her one of the first women singers of Mizrahi music in Israel, and Eize Min Olam (1990) was a huge success. She sang Umm Kulthum's Inta Omri in 1991, returned to the top with her albums of Arabic songs (1996) and of Zohar Argov's songs (1998), and Melech Amiti (2000) sold 100,000 copies, with hits including Haim Sheli.

She has made 16 studio albums, the latest Leilot BaBayit (2011), and keeps recording: Ahava Kazo with Idan Raichel reached second place on the Media Forest chart in 2017. She won the eleventh season of Big Brother in 2021, lit a torch at the Independence Day ceremony in 2025, and that year released new singles ahead of a new album.
