20 HaTayelet (the promenade), La Mimunia building, Ashdod

A family-run kosher Indian restaurant on Ashdod's seafront promenade since 1991, in the Moroccan-style La Mimunia building, with naan from a charcoal tandoor and Indian paintings on the walls

Namaste is a kosher Indian restaurant on HaTayelet, Ashdod's seafront promenade, inside the La Mimunia building, which by its own account is designed after Morocco and which Kan Darom described in 2017 as a palace complex by the beach. By its own account Yoel Sugaokar founded it in 1991, and the second generation runs it today. ynet told in 2023 that he and his wife Sybil came to Israel from Mumbai in 1983, named the restaurant after the Hindu greeting and are helped by their children and a team of cooks from India; in 2016 ynet had written that it grew from a small stall. Its kitchen, by its own account, is North Indian, with an Indian chef and cooks: samosas, pakoras and batata vada with chutney, tamarind and pickled lemon, naan baked to order in a charcoal tandoor that, by ynet's account, was brought from India, basmati rice and biryani, chicken, beef and vegetable curries made as hot as the guest asks, chicken tikka and seekh kebab from the tandoor, aloo gobi, palak and chana masala, falooda and kulfi, masala chai and a bar of beers, spirits and wines. The kitchen is kosher for meat, so by its own account yogurt is replaced with coconut cream, soy milk and non-dairy cream, and its paneer tikka masala is made with tofu. The room is in warm colours with original Indian paintings on the walls, and Indian music plays. From Sunday to Thursday, 12:00 to 16:00, it serves set lunches; it delivers in Ashdod and the moshavim around it, and caters events. mako's Lin Levi included it in April 2025 among 26 places to eat in Ashdod that mako is especially fond of, calling it a family Indian restaurant by the sea since 1991 with a huge, not very spicy menu, and ynet's Amir Kaminer wrote in 2023 that it had long since become an institution and that Indian celebrities visiting Israel have eaten there. It has served dal in the city's soup week and batata vada at its Peoples and Flavours festival.

Sources disagree on these hours

Its website gives Sunday to Thursday 12:00 to 16:00 and 18:30 to 23:00, and Friday 11:00 to 15:00; its booking page says it is closed on Saturday and takes table bookings until 22:30 on weekdays. Its Google listing, as Wanderlog copies it, mako's list of April 2025 and the city's tourism site give the same hours. On Wolt it takes orders from 12:00 to 15:30 and 18:30 to 22:30 from Sunday to Thursday and from 11:00 to 15:00 on Friday; those are delivery hours. An older listing on ROL gives evenings only on weekdays, Friday 12:00 to 16:00 and Saturday night from 20:00.
