Assaf Granit and Uri Navon's restaurant beside the Mahane Yehuda market since 2009: an open kitchen and a menu that follows the market

Machneyuda is the restaurant at 10 Beit Ya'akov Street, on the edge of the Mahane Yehuda market, that Assaf Granit opened with his friends Uri Navon and Yossi Elad, as its chefs page tells it; by Wikipedia's account it opened in July 2009, and Elad left the partnership in 2016. The group's own story says the idea was a Jerusalem chef restaurant with an open kitchen, happy food and a dynamic menu. The kitchen is seasonal, and its booking page says the menu changes twice a day with what the market offers; beside the changing dishes some have stayed for years, among them the soft polenta with mushroom ragout and truffle oil served in a jar and the shikshukit of deconstructed kebab with tahini and yogurt. The city's tourism site describes two floors: the open kitchen, clad in colourful tiles, takes much of the ground floor, beside a small bar facing the cooks, wooden tables and a low bar, and upstairs are more seats and a small bar that looks down on the room. ynet wrote in 2022 of loud music, spontaneous dancing and cooks who shout and hand out hugs, and mako wrote in 2024 that when it opened it led the trend of market restaurants with open kitchens, chasers and clapping, and placed it ninth among Israel's 20 best restaurants. It is not kosher, and it closes on Friday afternoon and reopens on Saturday an hour after Shabbat ends. Bookings on Ontopo open a month ahead, and groups of ten or twelve and more can book a private event with a set menu. It is the flagship of the Machneyuda Group, which grew from it to restaurants in London, Paris, Berlin and the Caribbean; the group's other places in Jerusalem, among them the bar Yudale across the street and Steakiya close by, are separate businesses. The light rail's Mahane Yehuda stop is about 90 metres away.

Sources disagree on these hours

Its website gives Sunday to Thursday 12:30 to 24:00, Friday 11:30 to 15:00 and Saturday night from an hour after Shabbat ends, with no closing time for Saturday. Its booking page on Ontopo, which the website links, splits the day into a lunch shift from 12:30 to 16:00 and a dinner shift from 18:30 to midnight, and Asif's guide (2024) gives the same break; its Google listing, as Restaurant Guru and Wanderlog copy it, has it shut from 15:30 to 18:30 and closing at 23:00 from Sunday to Thursday. The 23:00 closing on Saturday night is the one its Google listing and its Ontopo page give; Asif gives midnight. Ontopo takes Friday bookings until 15:30 and opens its calendar a month ahead. The phone is answered from Sunday to Thursday between 09:00 and 22:00 and on Friday between 09:00 and 14:30. The listing on d.co.il gives daytime hours that no other source gives.
