Alpaca Farm, on the Negev Highlands, Mitzpe Ramon

A family alpaca and llama farm on the Negev Highlands at Mitzpe Ramon, open to visitors since 1987, with cabins, a village of yurts and retreats.

The Alpaca Farm has stood on the Negev Highlands at Mitzpe Ramon since 1987, begun as the dream of Ilan and Naama, by the farm's account a dream of Zionism, creativity and love of animals. Visitors walk the farm's paths among alpacas and llamas, feed them by hand, hear the story of the farm and the difference between an alpaca and a llama, sit with a coffee or an ice cream in its stone hut, and visit the wool house, where alpaca wool is made into knitting yarn from shearing to the finished product and sold in the farm shop. Guests stay in cabins and suites on the hillside, a village of ten yurts or group khans, each with a kitchen and a campfire corner, and children who stay can ride along on the green tractor that feeds the animals every morning and afternoon. It also runs retreats and workshops, and says more than a million and a half visitors have come.
