A family-run Thai kitchen in Karkur that cooks with herbs and vegetables from its own garden beds
Thai Underground began in 2016 as a stall that Yoav and Sagit Tzidon set up in the yard of their furniture restoration studio during the artists' event the town holds twice a year, selling only pad thai and banana roti, as Globes told the story in 2024. In 2018 it moved to HaHagana 1, near the agricultural school, where Yoav runs the kitchen and Sagit runs the room. Beds of herbs and Thai vegetables at the entrance supply part of the kitchen, from kaffir lime and galangal to Thai eggplant, and the tables look onto the garden, with more seating outside on a deck. The menu runs from som tam and a pomelo salad to curries, tom yum and wok noodles, with seafood and pork on it, and several dishes come in a vegan version. It is open Sunday to Thursday from 12:00 to 22:00 and takes no reservations; mako's critic found the evenings its busiest time in 2023. Takeaway is ordered on its own page on Tabit. Globes' headline in 2024 counted it among the best restaurants in the country, and ynet's that year credited it with the tastiest chicken wings in Israel.

Sources disagree on these hours
Its own ordering page, Wolt, Tripadvisor and Globes' 2024 fact box give Sunday to Thursday, 12:00 to 22:00, and its Instagram bio says Sunday to Thursday; Friday and Saturday it is closed. Restaurant Guru's copy of its Google listing has it closed on Sunday and Monday as well, and older listings on d.co.il and HaShulchan still show the evening hours of its early years.
