Pastry chef Moran Gil's cakery on Allenby Street, known for its divided cake, a tart built from triangles of different flavours

The Cakery at 31 Allenby Street belongs to Moran Gil, a pastry chef who also leads pastry workshops and styles food for photography. Her best-known creation, her site says, is the divided cake: a tart made of triangles of tarts in different flavours, born when friends who had ordered together asked her to divide it, and now built to each customer's choice of flavours. She learned the foundations of pastry in her mother's patisserie, Yaeli Bakery, at Kibbutz Lohamei HaGeta'ot. The shop also sells whole tarts and cheesecakes, babkas, yeast cakes, savoury pastries and sandwiches, with vegan and gluten-free cakes among them, and keeps a corner of Scandinavian tableware.
