Chef Evyatar Malka's kosher fish and dairy restaurant on the entrance level of the Elkonin hotel in Neve Tzedek, named after the Ashdod quarter where he grew up and built around fish, charcoal and handmade dough

Rova Alef is the restaurant of chef Evyatar Malka on the entrance level of the Elkonin hotel, on the edge of Neve Tzedek: the hotel's address is 9 Lilienblum Street, and the restaurant's own booking page gives 18 Yehoshua HaTalmi Street, on the hotel's side street. It takes its name from Rova Alef, Quarter A of Ashdod, where Malka grew up, and by its own account it tells his story as a chef returning to the places of his childhood, with fresh fish, charcoal and influences from all around the Mediterranean. Malka and his partner, the restaurateur Yonatan Greenberg, who had opened the Tel Aviv wine bar Winona Forever about two and a half years earlier, joined the hotel's owner, Dominique Romano, to open it in March 2025 in the room where Joël Robuchon's L'Epoque had closed within a year, mako reported. The hotel was Tel Aviv's first, opened in 1913 by the couple Malka and Menahem Elkonin, and its old building has been restored beside a new glass tower. The kitchen is open, with a Josper charcoal oven at its heart and a central bar for cocktails; Walla's critic Avi Efrati described a small room inside with the bar and a larger space outside, where most diners sit. The menu, kosher and dairy, is built on fish, vegetables and handmade dough: bluefin tuna sashimi with blood-orange aguachile and harissa, called Red on Red, a tostada of tuna tartare, okra and leeks from the Josper, a hamusta of chopped sea bass in thin kubbeh dough that mako called the house's signature dish already in its trial run, sea bass tacos in a Patrón batter, a trout merguez, agnolotti and a tuna pepper steak. It opens from Sunday to Thursday for lunch and dinner and is closed on Friday and Saturday, and its booking page offers a private room, the lobby and the patio for events. In March 2025 mako wrote that the same team also cooks the hotel's breakfast. Walla's Yaniv Granot put it first on his list of the ten restaurants most worth going to in July 2025, and fourth in October; Efrati, reviewing it in June 2025, called it "a really good restaurant" and in September named it among the year's very worthy openings; Time Out's Sharon Ben-David put it first among Tel Aviv's kosher restaurants in August 2025, as probably the best new kosher restaurant in the city; and mako's list of Israel's 50 best kosher restaurants, made with the Foodos community in July 2026, opens with it.

The Elkonin hotel's website, last updated on 30 June 2026, gives the restaurant's hours as lunch from 12:30 to 15:00 and dinner from 18:00, Sunday to Thursday. The closing time is from its Ontopo booking page, which takes table bookings from Sunday to Thursday between 18:00 and 23:00, the last at 22:00, takes none for lunch and has it closed on Friday and Saturday; its Google listing, as Wanderlog copies it, also gives 18:00 to 23:00 from Sunday to Thursday. Channel 13 reported in February 2026 that it had started serving lunch that month, Sunday to Thursday from 12:30 to 16:00. When it opened in March 2025 mako gave Sunday to Thursday from 18:00 to 01:00, and in October 2025 Walla reported a Friday brunch held at the end of each month.
