Aya Korem was born on 7 January 1980 in Nazareth Ilit, now Nof HaGalil, and grew up there. Her mother, Shlomit Korem, was a police officer, and her father was an engineer. She finished the Yigal Alon school in the town and then served in the IDF as a tank instructor.

From 2001 to 2004 she studied songwriting, composition and performance at the Rimon School in Ramat HaSharon. Her classmates included Miri Mesika, Keren Peles and Eric Berman. She first worked as a songwriter, and her song appeared on Mesika's first album in 2005.

In 2006 she released her debut album, produced by Ori Zakh, which reached Golden Album status. Its singles included Kayitz and Shir Ahava Pashut. Her second album, Safa Zara, came out in 2008 and moved toward a more personal style.

In 2009 she joined My Favorite Enemy, a group of Israeli, Palestinian, Jordanian and European musicians. She also starred in a musical and co-hosted a TV show with Dani Robas. In 2010 she began a legal fight to leave her contract with the Anana label, which ended in 2015 when she was released from it.

With lawmakers Dov Khenin and Amram Mitzna, she initiated a bill to limit music contracts to 7 years. The Knesset passed it on 13 February 2017. She lives in Tel Aviv.
