Aya Korem started out writing songs for others before her own debut went gold in 2006

Aya Korem was born in 1980 in Nazareth Illit, now Nof HaGalil, and grew up there. She studied songwriting, composition and performance at the Rimon School of Music and started out as a songwriter: her song Ata Af Pa'am appeared on Miri Mesika's first album in 2005.

Her debut album, Aya Korem (2006), produced by Ori Zakh, went gold; Shir Ahava Pashut was the most-played song in Israel that year and she was named singer of the year. Safa Zara followed in 2008, then Lealef Et HaSusim (2011), and 2023 (2016), a futuristic concept album sung by many guest artists that won her an ACUM prize.

Since 2018 she has performed Shelach, A. Korem, new Hebrew translations of Leonard Cohen songs, released as an EP (2019) and a live album (2024). Her later albums include HaKochevet Shel Natzrat Illit (2021), Aya Korem 2022 with new recordings of her early songs, LeChesed UGeula Hamshech Yashar (2024) and Aleinu Lo Sharim Shirim (2025), an imagined conversation with the poet Natan Alterman; in 2026 her first book, Tzodeket, came out.
