Emuna Elon was born in Jerusalem in 1955 to Rabbi Professor Pinchas Peli and feminist activist Pnina Peli. Because of her father's work, she grew up between Jerusalem and New York. She attended high school at Ulpanat Horev and at the High School of Music and Art in New York.
After her marriage she lived in the Golan Heights and at Kibbutz Shluhot, and taught in schools and in a conversion program. From 1983 to 1985 she taught at Ramaz in Manhattan. She was married to Rabbi Binyamin Elon, a minister and Knesset member, and they have 6 children, among them writer Ori Elon.
From 1991 she wrote a regular column in Yedioth Ahronoth, and stopped in 2005 in protest over the paper's coverage of the disengagement plan. She later wrote a weekly column in Israel Hayom. From 1992 to 1996 she was a panelist on the TV program Popolitika, and later advised Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the status of women, leading to the founding of the Authority for the Advancement of the Status of Women in 1997.
In 1987 she and her husband founded the Beit El Library publishing house, where she was chief editor. Her first novel appeared in 2004, and later novels include Beyond My Sight and House on Many Waters, which was translated into several languages.
