Ido Rosenthal was born in 1978 in Jerusalem

Ido Rosenthal was born on May 29, 1978, in Jerusalem to Ze'ev and Ronit. He had 2 younger sisters and grew up in the Ramot neighborhood, and as a teenager his family moved to Mevaseret Zion. His grandmother gave him the nickname Karido, Spanish for my dear.

He studied photographic communication at the Hadassah Academic College in Jerusalem. His 2010 final project showed portraits of people on the margins of Israeli society, under a title taken from a Mark Twain book.

He enlisted in 1996 and served as a fighter in the Shaldag Unit, staying on in career service. He received the Israel Defense Prize for his military work.

On October 7, 2023, he took his personal pistol, went to his unit and flew south by helicopter. Between Alumim and Be'eri his team fought a large group of militants, and he was shot in the neck and killed. After his death he was promoted to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer.

He was the partner of artist Noga Friedman and the father of 3 children. He is commemorated by a memorial garden at Alumim, a documentary film and comic books.
