Liat Segal was born in 1979 in Holon

Liat Segal was born in 1979 in Holon, where she grew up. Her father Haim is an industrial engineer and her mother Lipa is a pharmacist born in Romania, and both work as entrepreneurs in pharmaceuticals. She is the second of 3 siblings and finished Kugel High School in Holon.

After serving in Unit 8200, she completed the Adi Lautman Interdisciplinary Program at Tel Aviv University in 2005. She earned a master's degree in bioinformatics there in 2007, with a thesis on machine learning for biological insights from DNA sequences. In 2017 she earned a second master's degree in decision analysis from Minerva University in San Francisco.

She worked at several startups in bioinformatics and machine learning. From 2008 to 2010 she was a researcher at Microsoft's innovation labs.

In 2009 she turned to art, building machines and installations from electronics, mechanics and software. Her work deals with intimacy, privacy, identity and memory in technological settings, and has been shown at the Israel Museum and in Germany. She has taught at Bezalel and the Kibbutzim College.
