Shai Abramson was born in Jerusalem on June 4, 1974, to Esti and Roni Abramson. His father was a soloist at the Great Synagogue of Jerusalem and for years managed the Israel Chamber Orchestra. As a boy he sang in the synagogue's choir during the High Holidays.

He studied at the Bnei Akiva yeshiva in Kfar HaRoeh. He later studied music with Naftali Herstik, Eli Jaffe and Moshe Stern.

He entered the army through the academic reserve, studying logistics and economics. After officers' course he taught in that course and commanded a headquarters company in the Maglan unit. He then moved to information systems and weapons work in the Technology and Logistics Directorate.

After singing at an army ceremony, he was named Chief Military Cantor in 2008 and promoted to lieutenant colonel. He left career service in early 2017 and kept the post as a civilian employee. He performs with army and civilian orchestras, at state events and in Jewish communities abroad, and in 2022 acted in the film Rashbi.

He is married to Yael and they have 4 children. He lives in Modiin and volunteers as a Magen David Adom ambulance driver.
