Shalom Hanoch was born in 1946 in Mishmarot

Hanoch was born in 1946 in Kibbutz Mishmarot, the youngest of three children of Sarah and Haim Hanoch. His father was one of the kibbutz founders and wrote songs. As a child he played the recorder and mandolin and heard classical music, Russian folk songs, gospel and blues.

He received a guitar at 12 and began writing songs. He wrote for the kibbutz band HaMishmaron, whose members included Meir Ariel. At 16 he began studying at the Beit Tzvi theater school.

During his army service he sang with the Nahal military ensemble and wrote songs for it. In 1967 he met Arik Einstein, who asked him to write songs, and the EP Hagar followed that year.

In 1968 Einstein recorded the album Mazal Gdi, with all its music by Hanoch. In 1969 Hanoch cofounded the band HaShlosharim. In 1970 he worked with Einstein and The Churchills on Shablul and then Plastelina, and in 1971 he went to London.

He is also known for protest songs such as Mehakim LaMashiach. In 2022 he received the ACUM lifetime achievement award.
