Shalom Hanoch wrote his first songs on Kibbutz Mishmarot and became one of the first makers of Israeli rock
Shalom Hanoch was born in 1946 on Kibbutz Mishmarot. He got a guitar at 12 and wrote his first songs for the kibbutz band HaMishmaron, whose members included Meir Ariel. He sang in the Nahal army band, and in 1967 he began playing his own songs at the HaHalonot HaGvohim club in Tel Aviv, where he met Arik Einstein, who asked him to write songs for him.
He wrote all the music for Einstein's Mazal Gdi (1968) and for Shablul (1970), which Einstein, Hanoch and the Churchills made together, followed months later by Plastelina: his work with Einstein produced the first Israeli rock albums. In 1973 he founded the band Tamouz with Ariel Zilber, whose only album, Sof Onat HaTapuzim (1976), is a landmark of Israeli rock, and then went solo with Adam Betoch Azmo (1977) and Chatuna Levana (1981).
Mehakim LaMashiach (1985) was his most successful album, and on its tour he played Park HaYarkon before 150,000 people. He has made 14 studio albums, the latest Herzl Lilienblum (2021), and in 2022 he received the AMI lifetime achievement award and published his first book of poems, Petakim.
