Uri Bar-Lev was born in 1959 in Ein Vered
Uri Bar-Lev was born in 1959 in Moshav Ein Vered to Ezra and Mati Brill. As a child he moved with his family to Moshav Mishmar Ayalon, where they grew flowers.
He joined the IDF in 1977 and served in the Shaked reconnaissance unit, then trained as an officer in the Combat Engineering Corps. In 1980 he was badly wounded when an item brought back from a cross-border operation exploded, and he lost a leg below the knee. After rehabilitation he returned to service and commanded the Duvdevan Unit from 1987 to 1989.
He then joined the Israel Police and set up the Gideonim undercover unit, which he commanded. He held many posts and in 2004 became a major general as head of police intelligence. Months later he took command of the Southern District, including during the disengagement plan.
In 2009 he was appointed Israel Police attaché in the United States. In 2010 an investigation into suspected sexual harassment led him to withdraw his candidacy for police commissioner, and the case was closed in 2011. He later retired at his own request.
Since retiring he has run businesses and chairs an Israeli search and rescue association. He has 4 children and lives in Mishmar Ayalon.
