Uri Simhoni was born in 1936 in Ginosar
Uri Simhoni was born on Kibbutz Ginosar and grew up there. He joined the IDF in 1954 and volunteered for the paratroopers.
He was released in 1957 and returned to Ginosar, where he fished in the Sea of Galilee. In 1960 he married Ilana Dar. He then worked as a sailor in the Israeli merchant fleet and rose to boatswain.
He returned to the army in 1964 as an intelligence officer and rose through command posts, including the Golani Brigade. He became a major general in 1981 and served as IDF attaché in the United States until his release in 1986. He held a bachelor's degree in history from Tel Aviv University.
In 1989 he became CEO of the Soltam arms plant, which was losing money. After layoffs, a strike and a forced entry into the plant, he resigned. In 1993 he was indicted in the United States in a bribery affair, which was closed without charges after a plea deal he refused to sign.
In 1993 a Tel Aviv court convicted him of securities offenses, and President Ezer Weizman erased the conviction in 1998. He died in 2021.
