Yigal Ravid

Yigal Ravid was born in 1957 in Tel Aviv

Yigal Ravid was born on 13 August 1957, under the family name Zimet. He grew up in Bnei Brak, where his family was among the early settlers. He graduated from the Herzliya Gymnasium.

He joined the IDF in 1976 and served at Galei Tzahal and later in the Education Corps. He studied political science at Tel Aviv University and worked in his father's car parts business.

In 1983 he joined Kol Yisrael as an announcer and hosted music programs on Reshet Gimel. From 1989 to 1992 he lived in Los Angeles and reported for Israeli radio and television. Back in Israel, he edited and presented news on Reshet Bet from 1993 to 1996.

He became an editor and presenter at Israel's First Channel in 1996 and moved to Channel 2 in 1998. He returned to the First Channel in 2003 and hosted the archive program Kach Haya from 2006 to 2017. In 2013 the State Comptroller issued a whistleblower protection order for him after he complained of harassment by his news director.

Since July 2019 he has lived in Los Angeles, reporting for Kan Reshet Bet. In June 2024 he became a United States correspondent for an Israeli news channel. He is openly gay, and in December 2024 he and his partner had twins through surrogacy.
