Yoav Yarom was born in 1973 in Haifa
Yarom was born on January 11, 1973, and grew up in the Denya neighborhood of Haifa. He has four brothers, including a twin. His father Artzi was a physicist and his mother Esti worked in administration at the University of Haifa.
He joined the IDF in 1992 and served in the Golani reconnaissance unit. In December 1993 he lost his leg to a mine in southern Lebanon, then returned to the unit after rehabilitation. He later commanded Golani companies, the Golani reconnaissance battalion and the Samaria and Alexandroni brigades, and retired in 2019.
After his release he founded Eretz Asfanut, an auction house for coins and stamps in Binyamina. In 2021 he, his brother and his father were indicted for illegally holding antiquities. The indictment against him was canceled in a plea deal, and the Israel Antiquities Authority confiscated part of the family collection.
As a reservist he was chief of staff of the Golani Brigade. In the Swords of Iron war he was wounded in Lebanon in an incident in which civilian Zeev Erlich and soldier Gur Kehati were killed. In December 2025 the Military Advocate General closed the criminal case against him, and the Chief of Staff later gave him a severe reprimand and dismissed him from reserve service.
He is married with two children and lives in Moshav Aviel near Binyamina.
