Yuval Peres was born in Jerusalem on 5 October 1963 and grew up in Ramat HaSharon. His father, Yohanan Peres, was a professor of sociology at Tel Aviv University.
He earned his Ph.D. at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 1990, supervised by Hillel Furstenberg. He then held postdoctoral posts at Stanford and Yale.
