A 17-year-old barber from Afula, a city in northern Israel, has been indicted for stabbing a man and seriously wounding him, according to a news alert from Ynet. Ynet described the background to the attack as a business dispute over customers.

Israeli broadcaster N12 gave a fuller account of how the confrontation unfolded. In an update attributed to N12 correspondent Or Ravid, the channel reported that two young barbers had been quarrelling about clients, that the argument turned into a fight inside a barbershop, and that at the end of the fight one of the barbers stabbed the father of the other young man. N12 also said the victim was seriously hurt.

What the two reports say

The two outlets agree on the core facts: a young barber, a dispute over customers, a stabbing and a serious injury. They differ in emphasis and detail. Ynet's alert focuses on the legal step, the filing of an indictment, and refers to the victim only as a person. N12's update describes the scene as a brawl at a barbershop and identifies the wounded man as the father of the rival barber, but does not mention the indictment. Ynet's alert does not say how the victim was connected to the defendant, and N12's does not give the defendant's age or home town. Taken together, the reports point to the same incident, though neither alone contains every detail.

Where Afula is

Afula is a city in the Jezreel Valley in the north of the country, serving as a regional centre for surrounding towns and villages. Neither report says whether the barbershop where the fight took place was in Afula itself or elsewhere; Ynet identifies Afula only as where the defendant is from.

What an indictment means in Israel

In the Israeli system, an indictment is the formal charge sheet filed by prosecutors in court once police have completed an investigation and the prosecution decides there is enough evidence to bring a case. It marks the start of criminal proceedings, not a finding of guilt. Because the defendant is 17, he is a minor under Israeli law, and cases involving minors are generally handled in juvenile courts, with restrictions on publishing identifying details. Neither report names the defendant or the victim.

The reporting so far

Both reports were short breaking-news updates posted on the outlets' Telegram channels on the same morning. Ynet is the news website of the Yedioth Ahronoth group, and N12 is a major Israeli television news brand. Ynet's alert referred readers to a full article on its website, which was not part of the material available for this report.

What the reports do not say

Neither report states the specific charges listed in the indictment, which court it was filed in, or when the stabbing took place. Neither describes the victim's current condition beyond the serious injury, what weapon was used, or whether anyone else was hurt or arrested. No response from the defendant, his lawyer or the victim's family has been reported, and neither outlet says whether prosecutors have asked for the teenager to be held in custody until the end of proceedings.

How we checked this

The stabbing and the dispute over customers were reported by both Ynet and N12; the indictment and the defendant's age and home town come from Ynet only, and the victim's relationship to the rival barber comes from N12 only. We have not independently verified any of these details.
