The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) says it killed four members of Hamas in separate strikes in the northern Gaza Strip. In a statement on its official Telegram channel, the IDF spokesperson said two of them were hit in two separate strikes on Saturday: Nabil Hamad, whom the military described as the head of a department in Hamas's recruitment apparatus, and Mohannad Nader Mahmoud Dahdouh, described as a sniper commander.
Joe Truzman of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD), summarising the military's announcement, reported that the other two were killed on October 22. He identified them as Arafat Kamal Muhammad Ar'air, described as the commander of a rocket squad, and Wael Naif Fahmi Muslim, said to be a member of Hamas's Nukhba force who took part in the October 7 attack. None of these identifications or roles has been confirmed by any party other than the Israeli military.
Who the military says was targeted
According to the IDF, Nabil Hamad ran a department within the part of Hamas responsible for bringing in new members, and the military said he was directly engaged in efforts to reinforce and reconstitute the group's armed wing inside Gaza. The IDF statement framed all four men as people involved in moving attacks forward.
Mohannad Nader Mahmoud Dahdouh was described by the military as a commander of snipers. The IDF text available to us breaks off partway through its description of his activities, so the full allegation against him is not in the material.
The two men named for October 22 appear in the FDD summary. Wael Naif Fahmi Muslim is described there as a Nukhba operative and a participant in the October 7 attack. Arafat Kamal Muhammad Ar'air is described as heading a rocket squad.

What the Nukhba force is
Nukhba, an Arabic word meaning "elite", is the name commonly used for the special forces of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas's military wing. Israel has said Nukhba units led the cross-border assault on southern Israeli communities on October 7, the attack that began the current war in Gaza. The Israeli military regularly highlights when people it kills are alleged to have taken part in that attack.
Who reported this
The IDF spokesperson's unit is the military's official communications office. It publishes announcements of strikes and named targets in several languages, including through a Telegram channel, and those announcements are the primary source for claims of this kind.

IDF says Gaza strikes killed four Hamas members, one an October 7 attacker
The Foundation for Defense of Democracies is a research institute based in the United States. Truzman, who writes for its Long War Journal, tracks and summarises Israeli military announcements and militant group activity. His post on X explicitly attributes the account to the IDF, and it does not present independent findings.
How this fits the pattern of IDF announcements
Announcements naming individual Hamas members killed in targeted strikes, along with their alleged roles, have been a routine part of the IDF's public reporting during the war. Such statements often group together strikes carried out on different days, as this one appears to do, and frequently stress a target's alleged part in rebuilding Hamas's military capabilities or in the October 7 attack.
The northern Gaza Strip, which includes areas such as Gaza City and Jabalia, has been the scene of repeated Israeli military operations throughout the war.
Where the reports differ
The two reports do not contradict each other, but they do not carry the same information. The IDF text in the material, which is truncated, covers only the two men struck on Saturday, although its headline refers to four. The details of the October 22 strikes, including the names and roles of the two men killed that day, come to us only through the FDD summary of the military's announcement.
What the reports do not say
- Neither report gives the exact locations of the strikes beyond northern Gaza, or the type of weapon used.
- Neither report says whether anyone else was killed or injured in any of the strikes.
- There is no response in the material from Hamas or from Gaza health authorities, and no independent confirmation of the identities or roles of the four men.
- The reports do not explain why the October 22 strikes were announced together with Saturday's.
- The truncated IDF text does not give the full allegation against Mohannad Nader Mahmoud Dahdouh.

How we checked this
The killings and the roles of the four men are claims by the IDF spokesperson; the FDD post restates the military's announcement rather than confirming it independently. Details of the October 22 strikes appear only in the FDD summary, as the IDF text in our material is truncated.
