Amir Benayoun paid for his first album partly with savings from renovation work
Amir Benayoun was born in 1975 in Beersheba and grew up in the city's Shchuna Daled neighbourhood. He paid for his first album partly with savings from renovation work, and Rak At came out in June 1999, produced by Micha Shitrit. It sold more than 40,000 copies, with songs such as Rak At, Kshe'at Atzuva and Moreh LaChaim, and in 2001 ACUM named him discovery of the year at its Golden Feather awards.
His third album Shalechet (2002) established him in the mainstream of Israeli music, and the title song of Nitzacht Iti Hakol (2004) became a hit. In 2009, in a Channel 24 and Army Radio project on the music of the decade, he came second as singer of the decade and Nitzacht Iti Hakol came second as song of the decade. He also writes and composes for other singers: most of Gidi Gov's album Bektze HaHar (2005), most of Ishay Levi's album At (2012), whose title song won ACUM's song of the year, Yehoram Gaon's Kayom Hivaldi (2013) and Shuli Rand's Shuli Shar Benayoun (2022).
His album Hakol Ad Lechan (2006) began his path as an independent artist. Shirei Eretz Ahava (2013), his new versions of songs by Meir Ariel, Uzi Hitman, Shlomo Artzi and others, went gold, and in August 2025 he released the five-song EP Lo Noge'a BaKarka. In 2025 he marked his 50th birthday at the Caesarea amphitheatre with his band and guests Natan Goshen, Shuli Rand and Itay Levi, ending the night, as he ends his shows, with Omed BaSha'ar.
