Astrix went from DJing at birthday parties to 18th in the world

Astrix is the stage name of Avi Shmailov, an Israeli DJ and producer of psytrance and full-on trance. He was born in Soviet Georgia in 1980 and grew up in Israel. He began DJing in 1995, and started recording as Astrix in 1997.

His debut album, Eye to Eye (2002), sold more than 10,000 copies around the world, and the second, Artcore (2004), went gold after selling more than 20,000. DJ Mag's Top 100 DJs placed him 75th in 2005, 41st in 2006 and 18th in 2007.

He played The Gathering festival in its very first year, 2002, and has since played Tomorrowland and A State of Trance. His later albums are One Step Ahead (2008), Red Means Distortion (2010) and He.art (2016), and in 2018 he started the project Alpha Portal with Ace Ventura.
