Arkadi Duchin moved to Kiryat Yam at 15 and founded HaChaverim Shel Natasha nine years later

Arkadi Duchin was born in 1963 in Babruysk, Belarus, and moved to Israel in 1978, at 15, growing up in Kiryat Yam. In 1987 he founded the rock band HaChaverim Shel Natasha with Micha Shitrit, Miki Harari and Shlomo Almakayes, writing, composing, singing and playing keyboards in it; the band's 1989 debut album, produced by Izhar Ashdot, went platinum.

His first solo album, Rotze VeYihye (1990), set songs by the poet Vladimir Vysotsky in Hebrew, mostly in translations by Micha Shitrit, and went gold. Arkadi Duchin (1995) sold more than 80,000 copies and went double platinum, and after Lehargish (2001) he was named singer of the year on Reshet Gimel's annual chart. In 2004 Mi Ohev Otach Yoter Mimeni, his music to Shitrit's words, became a hit and one of the songs of its time.

Over the years he has composed more than 900 songs, many of them for other singers: Lif'amim for Ron Shoval, Yesh Bi Ahava for Arik Einstein, Kol HaKochavim for David D'Or and Tishaker Li for Rita. He wrote the music for Assi Dayan's 1994 film Smicha Chashmalit Ushma Moshe, won the Ophir Award for best original music, and kept looking for new sounds, from the avant-garde concept album Le'ehov O Lamut (2016) to the techno album Asonot Digitaliyim (2020).
