Dana International broke through with a radio parody in 1992 and won Eurovision six years later
Dana International was born in 1969 in Tel Aviv. She broke through in 1992 with Saida Sultana, a parody of Whitney Houston's My Name Is Not Susan made with producer Ofer Nissim, and her first album, Danna International, came out in April 1993. Umpatampa (1994) went platinum with more than 40,000 copies.
In 1998 she won the Eurovision Song Contest in Birmingham with Diva, by Yoav Ginai and Svika Pick, Israel's first winner since 1979. She was named singer of the year on Reshet Gimel's annual chart in 1995 and again in 1998, and in 2011 she represented Israel at Eurovision a second time, with Ding Dong, a song she wrote and composed herself.
The hits kept coming at home: Love Boy (2007) was played more than 1,400 times in August 2007, a record for Israeli radio, and La Cucaracha (2023) topped the Media Forest chart. She co-wrote and composed Ke'ilu Kan, sung by Boaz Mauda at Eurovision 2008, sang as a guest at Eurovision 2019 in Tel Aviv, and in February 2026 headlined a Purim party at the Berlin club about blank.
