Danni Bassan met the founders of T-Slam while recording army band songs at Galei Tzahal
Danni Bassan was born in São Paulo, Brazil, in 1955, came to Israel at four and grew up in Kiryat Gat. He sang in the Air Force band and then in the Air Force entertainment troupe, which became known at the 1977 Song Festival with BeToch. Recording at Galei Tzahal's studios, he met Yizhar Ashdot and Yair Nitzani, who wrote Tnu Li Rock'n'Roll for him in 1979.
The song became a hit and led the three to form T-Slam, which Bassan fronted from 1980 until the band split in 1983, and in its many reunions since, starting with a tour in the summer of 1990. In 1984 he turned to acting, from a small role in Uri Barbash's film Beyond the Walls to the lead in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, staged by the Cameri Theatre.
As a solo singer he released Chalom Shichecha with Lehaka Mekomit (1992) and MeAz SheHitahavnu (2005), and his song Darkenu became a big hit in the early 2000s as the theme of the TV series HaBurganim. For years he has voiced trailers and dubbed films, among them Baloo in the Hebrew version of The Jungle Book 2, and in March 2025 he released Danni Bassan Shar Rotblit, a live album of 16 songs by Yankele Rotblit.
